ADMISSION INTO WEST STREET

Whether you are choosing a school or a nursery for your child it is one of the biggest decisions you will make. To ensure your child has the best start it is important you feel 100% confidence in the school you chose. To help parents decide we hold an open day/evening every year in October or November. You can see the school, meet with staff and ask any questions you have. We also encourage visits to the school at any other time and you can arrange this by contacting the main school office.

We have two admissions procedures; one into our nursery and one into reception class. Admissions into nursery are dealt with by the school. Admissions into reception class are managed by the local authority.

Being in our nursery DOES NOT automatically give your child a place in reception. Parents MUST still apply to the Local Authority.

Admissions to our Nursery

We take children into our nursery from 3 years of age.

We offer 2 sessions:
Morning 9.00am -11.30am
Afternoon 12.30pm-3.00pm
Families entitled to 30 hours free nursery care can access up to 25 hours within our nursery.

What to do if you would like a place for your child:

  • Contact our main reception and ask for a nursery admissions form
  • Return the form fully completed
  • Our nursery lead, Mrs Blackburn, will contact you regarding a start date

Admissions to reception class

Children start school the September before their 5th birthday.
Admissions are fully managed by the Local Authority and we have no involvement in any aspect of the process.

You ARE NOT automatically given a place if your child attends our nursery or you have other children in school.

What to do if you would like a place for you child:

  • Complete an on line application form by going to http://www.lancashire.gov.uk
You will need your own email address to complete this form.
  • Complete the form fully including additional information/comments such as siblings who already attend school/specific reasons you want West Street. This can help to strengthen your application.
  • Ensure the form is returned before the closing date: 15th January 2018

Should you not have access to an online form a paper one can be completed.
We are happy to help with any part of this process; please contact the main school office.

In Year Admissions and Admissions into Other Year Groups

Any parents looking for a place in year for Reception should contact the Local Authority.

Parents looking for places in other year groups should contact the school directly. A meeting will be arranged with the head teacher and also an opportunity to look round the school.

Children new to the area: if a place is available in the relevant year group this will be offered.

Children already at school in the local area: Lancashire has a policy of children not moving between local schools mid term and this should be avoided where at all possible. Discussions will take place around the individual needs of the child and between their current school and ourselves. Should all agree that a move is in the best interests of the child and we can meet their needs a place will be offered.
