On Sunday a group of Y5 and 6 pupils were invited to attend a brand new Literary Festival. The event was held at the beautiful Broughton Hall near Skipton. We visited 4 workshops where authors of children’s books and television programmes presented their work and gave top tips on being greats troy writers. Our first author was Ciaran Murtagh who got the whole audience involved in writing a romantic story about Lord Liquid – it was hilarious! We then had a lovely lunch before spending time with Terry Caffrey, a great Liverpool poet, and Andy Winters who we had met when he visited Y3 and Y4s at school. Magic and humour were the order of this presentation. Mara Menzies, a brilliant storyteller, read and acted out her stories with audience participation and finally Stuart Reid told us all about his rather “yukky” but funny series of books. The children had opportunity to purchase some of the books and get them signed before we ended the day with some much needed hot chocolate whilst attending the prize giving for the Y5/6 writing competition.

A great day!
