As part of our science unit based on electricity, children have been learning about how appliances are powered. They have discovered that some are powered by batteries and some are mains powered. The children were intrigued by what a plug actually was and how it worked. Therefore we decided to take one to pieces and find out what was actually inside it!

The children have learnt how to wire a standard 3 pin plug and how to change a fuse, despite it being a little bit fiddly! They have learnt what the 3 cables inside the plug are, their function and the reason that plugs contain a fuse.

We have some future electricians in the making!
