What an amazing day our first ever Book Fest was! The brainwave of Miss Broadbent and Mrs Graham the event, held on Saturday, was aimed at enjoying reading. Up and coming children’s / young adult’s author Jennifer Rothwell joined us and read from her debut novel A Spark of Fire. Guest storytellers Patricia and Sue Allonby, as well as members of staff, told a variety of tales and poems in our “Story Shelter”. A whole range of book related activities including Charlotte’s web to climb through, stick men to make, pebbles to paint and marvellous potions to invent. Face painting, character photo booth and cakes with an amazing Gruffalo cake to guess the weight of. Book tombolas for children and adults and a very talented artist, Peter, who drew characters requested by the children.

The Book Bus, Colne Library and Colne Book Shop all joined us as well as an ice cream van to keep us cool in the beautiful sunshine.

All in all a brilliant event and the first of many more. Thanks go to all the staff who organised and helped.
