West Street welcomed a special guest, Mrs Harvey, to school this morning to present the prizes to children who entered our recent logo competition.   Mrs Harvey is the chairperson for Pendle Schools’ Festival and we were delighted that she could join us for our presentation today.  Children were given the task of designing a logo for Pendle Schools’ Festival.  This is to be used across Pendle to represent the artistic talents of the children who perform at the festival annually at Colne Municipal Hall.  Eleven children from West Street submitted entries; each one a unique representation of what the festival means to them.  Some children drew instruments or music notes, others painted their images or made collages.

The entries were all then sent to local professional designer, Mr Alexander Di Vito, who agreed to sponsor the festival by designing a logo for free.  Mr Di Vito was so impressed with the standard of the children’s work that he found it hard to choose the winners.  Eventually, there were three winners whose images will be used on the formal logo.  Our three first place winners were Eshan, Selina and Usman, who were each presented with a certificate, sketch pad and stationary set from Mrs Harvey.  The eight runners up each received a stationary set as thanks for their hard work.

The new logo will now be seen on all festival letters, posters and programs and, thanks to an anonymous sponsor, will also be made into huge banners which will be displayed on stage when the children perform.  The logo will also be used on our new Pendle Schools’ festival Facebook page and Twitter; simply search us and like us!  Keep your eyes peeled for us in the local newspapers in the coming weeks; we will be celebrating the launch of this year’s festival in style!

Our 2018 festival promises to be an even bigger and better festival than ever before (if that is even possible).  There are lots of schools taking part in the massed choir items and from West Street we will have our incredible choir, street dance and musical theatre groups, who are working very hard to surprise you with their latest creations.  The festival takes place this June and tickets will be on sale in school nearer the time.  We are also looking for volunteers to help with refreshments, programs and backstage on the performance evenings.  If you would like to be involved, please don’t hesitate to speak to Mrs Burtoft or Ms James who will happily discuss this with you.

Many thanks to all the children who have won a prize this morning, we are incredibly proud of each and every one of them!  Thanks also go to Mrs Harvey and to the sponsors of our wonderful festival who help the children to have their first experiences of the stage.  Now it’s countdown to festival time and it’s SO EXCITING!!!
