Year 5 have had a brilliant week learning all about China. We looked at the blue and white willow pattern featured on Chinese plates and read the ‘Fable of the Two Doves’ which tells the story of the design. This inspired us to design our own plates and we used acrylic paint pens to draw our designs on to ceramic plates. The finished products were amazing!

Next, we watched videos of Chinese dragon dances and made our own dragon masks. In music we used the pentatonic scale to compose our own oriental music.

This afternoon we had a fabulous celebration where we performed our dragon dances and pieces of music. We also enjoyed an amazing Chinese banquet where the children were able to try lots of different foods and some even tried to eat using chopsticks! We would like to say a massive ‘THANK YOU!’ to SiQi’s parents at Lotus Chinese Takeaway for providing us with such fabulous food!

We have all had an amazing week; we have learnt so much and had lots of fun!
