Class 5 were visited by Mick, a fire and rescue officer from Nelson fire station. The children were enthralled by the presentation and once again the children were commended for their knowledge and great questioning skills. The children took part in a role play situation, acting out just what you should do in the event of a fire in your home. They weren’t caught out when Mick tried to send them back into the house to rescue the pet dog. The children all knew that this was dangerous and sent the firefighters in, to collect the dog.
After watching a film about how a fire could start, they discussed fire prevention and they looked at how to create a fire plan. They are aware of what smoke detectors do, where they should be positioned and how to contact the fire service to get free smoke alarms fitted in your home. Every child received a pack of information booklets and we have a story book and information for the classroom.
