Our wonderful West Street superstars were among approximately 190 children who sang together at Colne Municipal Hall on Friday for Pendle Schools’ festival.  The choir, who were split into key stages, sang a selection of songs with children from several other local schools.  This year the theme was ‘Open the Cover’, to support the Pendle Reading initiative.  All the songs were based on well known and loved books.

The children sang a multitude of bright and cheery songs including ‘Mrs Pepperpot, Black Beauty, This Old Man, Stig of the Dump and Treasure Island.’  There were several children who sang solo on the evening, one of which was our very own Alisha from Mrs Westwell’s class.  The children also had the chance to introduce songs by doing a reading about different books.  Fearne read an introduction about Charlie and The Chocolate factory before the children sang ‘Pure Imagination’.  It was a very dazzling night which the children have worked hard for over the past few months, with lots of rehearsals and working with other schools to learn songs together.  The children were accompanied by Mrs Melling and conducted by Mrs kemp.

At the end of the evening there was a very special treat as it was the turn of our head teacher, Mrs Burtoft, to take the microphone.  Mrs Burtoft was invited to make the closing speech for Pendle Schools’ Festival this year and she did a splendid job of it too!  Not even a single hint of nerves!

Well done to everyone who performed at the Schools’ Festival.  It was a truly remarkable week for all of us and the children have shone for West street; it has been a week of beautiful memories made!
