Musical Theatre Club have been working hard on their new performance of ‘So Long, Farewell’ from the musical ‘The Sound of Music’.  At the moment there are currently 7 members of the group which is the perfect number for the famous song which was sung by the Von-Trapps in Andrew Llyod-Webber’s production of the show.

Last Christmas, children in Musical Theatre were learning about the work of Jacques LeCoq and his contribution to Physical theatre practices.  They learnt how to use their bodies without words to portray feelings and emotions and how to tell a story with no script.  In November, the children learnt about how to turn songs into performance and how to sing as an ensemble including adults and other children.  The children have used their skills so far to perform at the Remembrance day assembly and the school Christmas show.

The children will showcase their new performance in early summer and it’s sure to be a spectacle that should not be missed.  Parents will be invited to watch the finished item which features Freddy as Friedrich and Fearne as Liesel, among others.  Rehearsals so far have been going really well and the children have done lots of work on gross motor co-ordination; using arms and legs in formation and learning how to present their bodies on stage to capture the interest of the audience.

We hope that you will stay tuned to our blog to find out more about Musical Theatre.  For more information or to find out about joining, please contact Ms James or Miss McPherson.
