As part of our new science unit, class 8 are investigating the properties of different materials. We began by identifying if a variety of materials would conduct electricity or not. We set up a simple electrical circuit using batteries, wires and a bulb. We then placed different materials into the circuit to see if the bulb would light or not. If the bulb lit, it was a conductor, however if it didn’t light, the material was an insulator. Not only did we find out about which types of material conducted electricity or not, but we also found out how to carry out a fair scientific investigation by only changing one variable. We also wrote up our experiment thoroughly including a prediction, a detailed method and conclusion.
Electricity can be very dangerous so people all over the world use the insulating properties of some materials to protect themselves from it.
