The Vicious Viking Warriors of class 7 explored the Yorkshire Dales this week. Following on from their topic about the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, the children embarked on a trip to the beautiful Embsay Crag to experience making Viking weapons and work as part of a team.

Once we arrived, the children split into three groups and Mr Burtoft told them about the different weapons Vikings used. They then split into three groups and began to make different weapons. Every group made axes, spears and swords in pairs and worked brilliantly together, showing great teamwork. Now time to test their new weapons. Every child had a go at axe and spear throwing and were cheered on by the rest of the class.

After a spot of lunch back on the mini buses and a hot chocolate each to warm up, the little Vikings headed back into the bracing wind. Time to build some houses. Each group built a model of a Viking long house with thatched roofs. After a quick attack from a real Viking it was time to head back to school.
