A warm welcome to West Street Primary and Nursery School and to our website. Everyone who plays a part in West Street life is very proud of our school and all strive to maintain it as a fantastic place to learn and as a key part of our local community.
West Street is a busy, vibrant school in the centre of Colne committed to providing the very best education and provision for all of our children through our inclusive and nurturing approach. Great learning is at the heart of everything we do and is only made possible by the incredible children, staff, parents, governors and community members who play such an active part in West Street life.
We strive to provide our children with memorable and powerful learning experiences and promote an ethos of self-belief, respect and pride in everything that we achieve. We have a creative approach to our curriculum with the aim of actively engaging all children in their learning. We very much believe that one size does not fit all and as such tailor to the individual needs of each child. We pride ourselves on supporting and challenging children of all abilities to achieve the highest possible academic standards while developing physically, socially and emotionally.
Our school comprises of two spacious buildings with four large outdoor areas for learning and playing, including a grassed area with trim trail. Our Early Years Foundation Stage has amazing outdoor provision to extend the learning opportunities from inside. Being one form entry, each year group has a large classroom. We have a dedicated Computer Room supplemented by laptops and ipads, a lovely library, Key Stage 1 & Key Stage 2 nurture rooms, additional rooms for small group work and a central hall area in each building. We also have a kitchen to provide school dinners, freshly cooked on site.
In addition to very talented, capable class teachers, Higher Level Teaching Assistant’s (HLTA) and Teaching Assistants we have specialist teachers for music, swimming and lunchtime sports coaching. Our Inclusion Team comprises of our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities lead, Learning Mentor, Pastoral Support Worker, Counsellor and specialist leads for speech & language and English as an Additional Language (EAL). We have dedicated site staff, welfare team and office staff who make it a priority to get to know the children to ensure every aspect of their school life is the best it can be.
I feel very proud and privileged to be a part of West Street School and community. We have tried hard to capture everything that we do on our website and give you a flavour of life at our school. However, if you wish to find out more information or to arrange a visit, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to make the necessary arrangements.
