Year 2 2023 - 2024
Miss Dexter
Hello from Year 2!Hello and welcome to Year 2! Year 2 is an important year for developing your child’s independence and continuing to foster their love of learning! We aim to make sure your child’s learning is engaging, interesting and fun, adapting a cross curricular approach where possible to allow your child to really immerse themselves in topics. Close links to home is essential to providing the best learning and support for your child! With close links to home we are able to ensure that every child is happy and gets the most out of their learning. Year 2 is also an important year in your child’s schooling as we help the children to prepare for the end of Key Stage 1 and the transition to Key Stage 2. Through our day to day work, we develop skills and resilience to support the pupils in their end of key stage assessments and to ensure they are able to maximise their potential. Supporting your child at home with their homework and regular reading aloud can have a huge impact and will help your child to develop a positive attitude towards their learning. Class RewardsEvery Friday, we have a celebration assembly where we are able to celebrate the various achievements of children throughout school. Each week, 2 children are chosen as 'Learners of the Week' and recieve a special certificate and a mention in the weekly newsletter. We also choose 1 'Reader of the Week' who has stood out for the effort in reading either in school or at home that week - they also receive a special certificate and a mention in the newsletter. Across school we use the Class Dojo system for rewarding children. Children may receive Dojo Points for their work, manners, being a good friend and a host of other great things. Make sure you sign up for the Class Dojo App so you can see how your child is doing! Dojo Points are added together and allow children to work towards the Planet Awards! Each planet in the solar system represents a total of Dojo Points beginning with 100 Dojo Points for Mercury, 250 Dojo Points for Venus, 450 Dojo Points for Earth etc... Key things to know about our class...Our P.E lessons are on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Please ensure your child has full P.E kit in school all week. Home learning is given out on a Friday and is to be returned the following Thursday. Book bags should be brought into school every day including the reading record.
