Literacy
Phonics Children have a daily phonics lesson. We follow Supersonic Phonic Friends which teaches the different skills through characters. Parents are invited to a phonics meeting which provides information to help you support your child at home. For more information see the Phonics page under curriculum Reading and Writing We want our children to develop a passion for books and reading. The books not only engage the children but enrich their growing vocabulary and inspire them to produce written work. Children use their phonic knowledge to write words and then simple sentences. From September we encourage children to mark make, holding a pencil correctly and to write their own name. Children start to write individual words, captions and then simple sentences. We pay close attention to correct letter formation. Reading books are changed in reception once a week. It is crucial that you listen to your child read at home daily. Children who read regularly at home will be rewarded with class dojo's, stickers or awarded reader of the week in celebration assembly. |
